The sum of years of potential life lost due to premature mortality from peripheral artery disease and the years of productive life lost due to disability from peripheral artery disease; expressed as an age-standardized rate per 100,000 population, using the IHME standard. DALY are also defined as years of healthy life lost. DALY is calculated as: DALY = YLL (Years of life lost) + YLD (Years lived with disability).
